Home elevator cost estimator

A home elevator in the US often costs $30,000 to $60,000 installed, and a stairlift costs far less. Pick your country and lift type, add extra stops and building works, and see a sourced price range in local currency before you ask a home lift company for a quote.

Ranges come from published cost guides for these four countries. Other countries have no sourced range here.

For multi-stop elevators only. Through-floor lifts serve two floors; extra stops are excluded for through-floor lifts, wheelchair platform lifts and stairlifts.

How we calculated this

The tool adds a sourced price range for the lift, supplied and installed with two stops, to sourced ranges for extra stops, building works, a permit and an electrical circuit. Each range is what the named source publishes. They are guide figures, not quotes, and they change with the model, finishes, travel and site. Through-floor lifts are limited to two floors; extra stops are excluded for them, wheelchair platform lifts and stairlifts.

Where a source gives no figure for a lift type or an add-on in a country, the tool adds 0 and says so. It does not add finishes, a machine room, fire-rated doors, maintenance or tax. The US permit and circuit line uses the HomeGuide permit range plus the dedicated circuit range; it excludes a panel upgrade ($1,300-$4,000).

A planning estimate from published cost guides, not a quote. Prices change with the model, finishes, travel, site and tax. A dealer gives you a written quote after a site survey.

Questions

How much does a home elevator cost?
Published US guides put a traditional two-stop home elevator at about $40,000 to $60,000 installed, and a glass or pneumatic elevator can reach $100,000 or more. Each extra stop adds about $10,000 to $15,000. Your quote depends on the model, finishes and the building work in your home.
Is a through-floor lift cheaper than a home elevator?
Usually. The sourced ranges for a through-floor or shaftless lift start lower in every country here, for example $30,000 to $50,000 in the US and £13,000 to £25,000 in the UK, because it needs no full shaft. Through-floor lifts serve two floors only; extra stops require a different lift type.
Why are UK prices lower?
Most UK makers publish prices before VAT, UK home lifts are often compact screw-drive or through-floor models, and the ranges come from different sources. Compare quotes in the same country and on the same tax basis.
Does the estimate include maintenance?
No. Ask each dealer for the price of a yearly service contract. For example, LiftQuotes puts residential lift servicing in Australia at $500 to $1,500 a year.
